The driveway area is excavated by a minimum of 225mm below finished levels.
The finished levels of driveways is normally a minimum of 150mm below the damp proof course with all falls away from buildings.
A minimum of 150mm layer of limestone is spread and compacted to provide a solid sub-base. A geo-textile membrane may be needed to help stabilise the soil.
When block paving, all edges will be set onto a concrete footing.
A 30-40mm layer of sharp sand or the 'green' option of crushed glass is spread and compacted.
The chosen blocks are laid upon the sharp sand and are 5-10mm proud of the edge blocks.
The blocks are compacted into position and left flush with the edge blocks.
A kiln-dried sand is brushed into the joints.
If requested the finished driveway can be sealed to help prevent staining, but this can leave the driveway looking shiny.
